About This Spot

Stepping into The Museum in Ipoh feels like entering a slice of vintage storytelling, where the bold red and black facade hints at a quirky, cinematic charm that sets the tone even before the first bite. Nestled in the bustling Greentown Business Center, this Chinese eatery hums with a lively yet comfortable energy—inviting both locals and visitors to slow down and savor moments alongside familiar flavors.

The pace here is unhurried but jovial, with conversations flowing over shared plates that carry a resonance of home-style care and culinary craft. The space, reminiscent of a glamorous mid-century movie theater, carries a distinctive character that complements the warmth of attentive service. It’s a place where the atmosphere feels both vibrant and intimate, making it ideal for gatherings that cherish connection as much as cuisine.

At The Museum, the food becomes a kind of storytelling itself. Every dish carries its own heritage and nuances—like the celebrated char siew, known locally as “tot de char siew,” rich with a tenderness and depth that invites a return for seconds. The tastes here are layered yet approachable, whether from the smokiness of claypot chicken rice or the comforting spice of a dry curry featuring fresh cockles. There is a thoughtful balance between traditional recipes and playful touches, such as sambal-kissed kang kong and subtle twists on beloved classics.

The restaurant’s soul truly shines through its shared experiences—the easy laughter around a generous table, the clinking of drinks as familiar stories unfold, and the soothing hum of air conditioning that keeps the tempo light. The attentive team moves quietly in the background, their kindness offering a quiet assurance that elevates the entire visit.

For those seeking a place where culinary heritage meets a slightly offbeat vibe, The Museum offers a grounded yet memorable escape, tucked into Ipoh’s lively food scene. It’s not just about satisfying hunger but about pausing to enjoy the textures, tastes, and quiet moments that make dining local a gentle adventure.

More than amazing is the char siew. So good that 2 of us ordered a second plate. The char siew is known as tuote char siew... Which in Cantonese mean drag on the floor. The name, after I googled, is from the fat pigs that are so fat in Hong Kong previously that their stomach drag on the floor, and they use these kind of super fat pigs to make the char siew. Each piece of the char siew is a delicacy, with the right amount of meat vs fats, sweet vs charred.... Just wow n wow. Then the teowchew hum(cockles) Never eat hum that is so fat and juicy... Also had this vege called paku vege, and after google, it's actually wild ferns. This is an amazing meal, no wonder they won the tatler awards... We almost sat outside cos we didn't make reservations, not knowing it would be so packed. Fortunately, 2 small table of customers left after we sat outside, and I happen to see them leave, and asked for an inner seat. And, must also eat the super fragrance steam garlic rice, you won't regret if u order.... Love the place.... More than 5 star if can give.

Look, there's something lost in translation. The Chinese name for the Museum is ghost-style/demon-style restaurant, which suggests an otherworldly experience. With that in mind, they do stand out among the regular, run-of-the-mill Chinese restaurants for the decor and more importantly, the food. The exterior looks like a glitzy 1950s movie theater, but with a prominent red and black facade. The interior is adorned with red walls, booth seats, an elevated wooden platform, a fireplace, shelves of (fake) hardcover books, and a bar area. The aesthetic choices are well, eclectic, but the sum of it, somehow works. Night after night they perform in front of packed houses. In fact, reservations are crucial to securing a table. And what of the food? Yet again, eclectic, but effective. Everyone comes for their famous char siew (barbecue pork), and siew yuk (roast pork). The former is a smoky, tender, lightly-charred, salty-sweet, thick-cut slices of pork belly that melts in your mouth, a definite highlight and must-try. The latter is well-seasoned, thick cut pork belly cubes with crispy crunchy skin and presented erect. I dig that. The other highlights are the shellfish. The lala clams (Venus clams) cooked with wine, and curry giant cockles are always recommended. Rich in flavour and super-sized, cooked til juicy and tender. Rarely do you encounter cockles of this size! For vegetables, the sambal paku-pakis (fiddlehead ferns) are a delightful plate of spice and texture. This should round off an excellent meal for a family of four. Yes they do have ordinary dishes like tomato eggs and sweet-sour pork, but you can have them anywhere else! Prices are on the high side, but you get what you paid for. Come for the food, stay for the fun. The Museum delivers for lovers of pork and shellfish.

Great service from Junnie and Fong! Our group of 10 pax had a beautiful time at this establishment. We love the Guinness and Heineken draft! Good point is no corkage charge if bring own bottle of wine. Overall food tasted yummy but just a little more salt will be better. Roasted Char Siew was fantastic! Better than the ones that we had tried at KL. Air con was cool. Table for 10 pax was big enough and we didnt feel squeezy. Food served was tad too quick though so our table was filled to the brim with all the food and it turned cold so fast. If they can improve on this area then it is perfect. We were seated at 7.15pm which was the second serving therefore need not rush as many patrons from other tables had left too. Other than that, we had an awesome experience at your restaurant.

A local favorite restaurant our family love to dine. Their cha siew and roasted pork are the signature dishes and must order everytime we visit. The cold dish paku pakis served with their special sauce is also our favorite. Boss and staff service is good. In our last visit my mother in law was almost scalded by hot tea on herself, boss and staff acted quickly to assist. Thank you boss. Keep up the good work in maintaining the food taste and quality. Cheers.

It was Wednesday, arrived around 6pm and we were lucky to get a table without reservation. but I would advise you to make advance booking because it was full house by 7pm. No doubts, they serve good foods especially their signature dishes.

This is definitely one of the more unique Chinese restaurants in Ipoh, best known for serving what many consider the best Char Siew in town. We stopped by for an early dinner before heading north. KH Guide & Rating :- • Accessibility : 4/5 (corner lot, easily noticeable with plenty of parking) • Cleanliness : 4/5 • Ambience : 4/5 (decor resembles Chinese restaurants you’d typically find in European countries) • Food quality : 4/5 (the Char Siew was excellent. However, the noodles still had a trace of boric acid taste, and the braised Yee Mee was rather average and overly salty for our liking). Fried lala in basil leaf was recommended. • Pricing : 3.5/5 (slightly on the higher side for the price level) • Attentiveness : 5/5 • Would visit again : Occasionally, if in Ipoh again.

Mom requested to lunch here when we visited Ipoh. My picky nephew had no complaints, he was thoroughly enjoying the meal. Must order BBQ Platter, egg omelette with prawn and fried prawn crackers
